Spring Lake High School English/Language Arts teacher David Theune received a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching grant from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Through the grant, Theune and his family spent several months living in the Netherlands.
David was awarded the Michigan Council for Teachers of English Teacher of the Year for 2016 and has been recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English as a 2016 Teacher of Excellence. Also awarded: the 2016 Dr. Elizabeth Curtis Award which honors young professionals.
Most recently, David has established a movement titled Elevate Empathy which includes; a community book club, a published book titled Elevate Empathy: The Power of Kindness, and a podcast titled “The Share Chair Podcast” which can be found on iTunes or SoundCloud and can be followed on Facebook or through the website thesharechairpodcast.com.
