Peter Sherwood, President of the SLDL Board of Trustees announced to the SLDL staff today that “Upon completion of our nationwide search, I am pleased and proud to announce the library board’s unanimous selection of Maggie McKeithan to succeed Claire Sheridan as director of the Spring Lake District Library.” Maggie comes to us from Troy, Kansas where she has been director of Library District #1 in Doniphan County, Kansas. Maggie will become SLDL’s new Director effective April 2019.
Maggie’s experience includes five years as a Library Director which included her oversight of a grant-funded full library building renovation. She has applied for and received several competitive grants, including a low-income cooking class grant for families and seniors in October 2017 and a grant to receive training in dialogue and deliberation methods, June 2018. Maggie is active in professional organizations, serving on the Kansas Library Association conference planning committee in 2017 and chairing the KLA membership committee in 2018. She also serves on several local boards—as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and as a board member for Northeast Kansas Enterprise Facilitation, a non-profit that assists entrepreneurs to start and grow local businesses. “I’m passionate about the library as an integral part of the community, working together with other community groups and organizations to create a great place to live and work. It’s incredible what you can accomplish when you work together towards a common goal” noted McKeithan in the Community Forum held in January as part of the interview process.
“Libraries are just as relevant today as they’ve always been. We still check out traditional books, of course, but we also provide meeting places and computer classes and eBooks and apps and storytimes and gaming and live music and social events…the list goes on and on. If you haven’t been to the library lately, I hope that you’ll visit the Spring Lake District Library again soon. I look forward to seeing you!” said Maggie McKeithan.
Maggie will take the position being vacated by Claire Sheridan who plans to retire at the end of March 2019, after 43 years of service to the Spring Lake District Library.
