Getting outside during the winter is one of the best ways to beat the winter blues, but when we go out in the snow, safety has to be a priority. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department will teach a free snowmobile safety course here at the library on Thursday, January 18 from 5-8pm.
The Michigan DNR recommends snowmobile safety training for all snowmobile operators. Since snowmobiles are capable of high rates of speeds over snow & ice, there are countless hazards that come up while operating a snowmobile. Kids 12-16 will receive a snowmobile safety certificate upon successfully completing the class on January 18.
You must successfully complete a snowmobile safety course if you are:
- A person 12-16 years of age operating a snowmobile without direct supervision of a person 21 years of age or older.
- A person 12-16 years of age may not cross a highway or street without having a valid snowmobile safety certificate in their immediate possession.
Be sure to reserve a space for this class by registering online or calling 616.846.5770.
