Everyone who operates a boat or personal watercraft on Michigan waterways is encouraged to take a Boater Safety Course by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, but some people are required to take the class before using water vehicles.  Those born after July 1996 can only operate a boat legally if they have been issued a boating safety certificate and keep it with them while driving the boat.  Anyone who wishes to operate a personal watercraft (like a jet ski) is required to obtain a boating safety certificate first.

Luckily the library is here to help!  We’re hosting a hosting a free Boater Safety Course right here in the library. A deputy from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division will teach the two-part class.  Class sessions are from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, May 1st and Monday, May 8th. Attendance at both sessions is required.

There are 30 spots in our boater safety class. Be sure to pre-register to reserve yours today!
